After leaving Albany we proceeded towards Denmark stopping at the Forest Hill Winery for supplies,
We called in at called Green Pool, a beach beauty spot.
Not far from there is an area called Elephant rocks, I think that the pictures are self explanatory, these rocks were huge.
We found a camp site, run by a very nice elderly couple, a few km outside of Denmark. The Land of the Giants ECO Park, it was out of season and we were the only campers. We stayed for two nights whilst we explored the local Tingle forests.
The term Giants refers to the trees in the area. This is the land of the huge Karri and Tingle trees.
Wattle flowers.
That evening we went for a walk in the forest at the back of the camp site and encountered the first kookaburra and kangaroo of the journey.
The next morning we went to the site of the Great Tingle tree. The weather had deteriorated since the previous day but we were in the middle of winter and so far it had been quite good.
This picture gives an idea of the size of the tree these can grow up to 75m tall with a 30m girth.
It is quite difficult to see Tatty Bear.
In the afternoon we went to the Tingle tree top walk. This section is 50m above ground.
Halfway along, there was a big clap of thunder and the heavens opened, there was no shelter and we got soaked. We made our way to the gift shop to dry out, the weather improved and I decided to have another go. I got to the same position at the top, it all happened again and I got a second soaking but It was well worth it, as it was a fantastic experience.
These are called Stag Horns, they date back to the 1937 fire. I thought that they were dead trees, in fact they are living but have grown up with the new trees and are only producing foliage up to the canopy.
