We arrived at Coral Bay on 12th July intending to stay one night, we liked it so much we stayed for three. Apart from having an attractive beach it had a really nice laid back atmosphere.
At the south end of the beach there was a small marina.
Below are pictures of the main beach. The water was quite shallow and contained all the usual sting rays jellyfish etc. but this did not keep people out of the water.
The water in the bay is in a natural lagoon formed by the Ningaloo Reef. The reef is a fringing reef not a barrier reef like the one of of the Queensland Coast which is 100km from the shore. The reef is 260km long and is between 3km and 7km from shore, it gets as close as 300m in places. It is formed from over 300 species of coral and is home to over 500 species of fish.
There was a variety of trips and excursions available out to the Ningaloo Reef, I did not think that my lungs would cope with snorkelling on the reef, so I went on a trip in a glass bottom boat. The pictures are not too good as the light under the sea was poor.
At the end of the trip we all went on deck and fed the fish.
These few pictures really don’t depict what a great place it was.
