Denham to The Tropic of Capricorn

When we left Whalebone bay in the morning of the 10th July we travelled up The Peron Peninsula to Denham and on to Cape Peron. The weather was bad so we decided not to stop. The only other place there to visit would have been Monkey Mia dolphin beach which was not a wet day experience so we decided to travel north to Carnarvon.

The rain continued and the roads soon got flooded but we got through OK.

Because of the rain and doubts about the pass-ability of the roads north we decided to stay in Carnarvon for two nights.

One of the attractions was yet another jetty this one only 1 mile long.

I walked out to the end and had a chat to the train driver who was telling me that they were really having difficulty keeping the jetty maintained well enough to keep it open. I am sure in the U.K. it would be closed by some health and safety bod.

Those of you who have seen the film “The Dish” will remember that during the communications of the first moon landing the dish in N.S,W. handed over to another dish in W.A. This is it below.

As to be expected it was closed!

After driving through a swarm of locusts we reached The Tropic of Capricorn. I thought that Tatty Bear should come out for this picture.

I won’t cross Capricorn again until I go south to Alice.

I have now driven over 4,000km since the 10th June. Next stop Coral Bay.
