We left Karijini on the morning of 19th July intending to do the 315km drive to Port Hedland that morning.
We stopped at Ausk Roadhouse to refuel as this was the only place for fuel on the route.
We encountered a number of wide loads on the journey nothing out of the ordinary just a nuisance as they can cause delays. One of these wide load is worth recording.
All traffic was pulled into a layby, where we waited for about half an hour whilst the stopped traffic built up behind us. nothing was coming the other way.
At last a vehicle in sight. That’s what you call a wide load. This is The Great Northern Highway a major two lane road.
And here is another one and another behind.
There were three altogether, They all stopped parallel to the layby as we left. When all the northbound traffic had got through, they waited for the southbound traffic that had been held up behind them to pass in the layby.
This was probably equipment for the Iron Ore Mine.
We stayed a Port Hedland that night and had a look at part of the port the next morning.
This is an iron ore ship waiting to be loaded.
This ship is loaded ready to set sail.
A pilot boat, taking a pilot out to one of the ships.
